Picking Cotton

This picture taken near Clarksdale, Mississippi is of workers picking cotton. Notice that the workers featured in this picture appear to be quite young. Back in the 1930's through the 40's there were no Child Labor Laws, therefore children often worked very long hours for very little pay. Luckily, today there are laws that forbid the exploitation of children.
