Picking Cotton

This photo shows a group of day laborers picking cotton in a field near Clarksdale, Mississippi. Picking cotton was a long process in the late 1930's. The workers did not have the machinery that we have today to make the job easier. These day laborers had to pick all the cotton by hand. Men, women, even children worked in the fields to get the job done.
