Connecticut, abbreviated CT, became a state on January 9, 1788. It was the fifth of the original thirteen colonies. The state animal is the sperm whale, the state bird is the American robin, and the state ship is the USS Nautilus. This picture is of a lighthouse on the cost in New London. The state song is “Yankee Doodle” and the state motto is “Qui Transtulit Sustinet,” meaning, "He Who Transplanted Still Sustains". |
