Strom Thurmond Federal Building and Courthouse in Columbia, South Carolina

South Carolina, abbreviated SC, became a stat on May 23, 1788. It was the eighth of the original 13 colonies. South Carolina’s capital was Charleston from 1670 to 1790 and has been Columbia since 1790. The state songs are "Carolina" by Henry Timrod with music by Anne Custis Burgess and "South Carolina on My Mind" by Hank Martin and Buzz Arledge. The state dog is the Boykin Spaniel and the state bird is the Carolina Wren. A tourist spot in this state is the Tobacco Museum in Mullins.
