Vermont, abbreviated VT, joined the union on March 4, 1791. It became our fourteenth state. Vermont is very famous for its Sugar Maple trees. The state is has a beautiful yet short state song, “These Green Mountains”, composed by Diane Martin and arranged by Rita Buglass. Symbols that represent Vermont are the Red Clover flower, the Painted Turtle, and the beautiful Monarch Butterfly. Vermont is the English form that Samuel de Champlain gave to this state. Vermont comes from “verd mont” meaning green mountain. |
